SERMON SERIES:

WHAT TO PRAY IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD (AND YOURSELF)

The world needs to change, and it can't change in the deepest and most abiding ways without God. This is why prayer matters so much.

But what do you pray if you want to change the world?

PART 1: HELP ME TO LOVE YOU

Is there a prayer that might work as a skeleton key? A prayer that opens door after door after door? A prayer that might work as a first domino, tipping all of the others?

Why yes, perhaps there is.

As we begin this series, we start with a prayer that's only 5 words long but has the power to change absolutely everything.

6/7/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Mark 12:28-31

PART 2: PUSH ME

As we continue to consider how we can influence real change in the world as Christ followers, Justin encourages us to recognize that without prayer, change is not going to happen in you and in us. Even more, Justin points us to the reality that all we have to do is to ask God to give us something we need to be different, to be wise, to be outside our comfort zone and to be brave! If you want to ask God to move you in the right direction, to get you where you're not, take a chance at this simple prayer for transformation, "Push Me"!. It's a guaranteed yes from God.

Text: James 1:5-7

PART 3: FIX IT

This week, our preaching minister, Justin Gerhardt sat down with Priscilla Black, a local pastor at Faith 4 Life Church to have a conversation about what it looks like to faithfully respond to the evils of racism and injustice experienced by Black Americans. Priscilla invites to us to hear the stories of the oppressed, to respond individually through immersion and education and to pray together, “Lord, by your power, fix it”.

6/21/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Psalm 94:1-7

PART 4: Bless Them

When you pray, chances are you mostly pray for you. And while praying for yourself is fine, changing the world will take more than that. In this message, Jacob Miller (RRCOC's summer preaching intern) will challenge the Who and the What of our prayers.
