SERIES:

BETTER AT PLEASURE

Christians have long been known by outsiders as finger-wagging killjoys, famous for all the things we aren’t allowed to do. Don’t get drunk, don’t sleep around, don’t listen to dirty music.

But what if we were known as the people who have the MOST fun, laugh the LOUDEST, experience the MOST pleasure? What if we were known for embracing the pleasure of food and sex and sleep and wine and friendship and laughter and beauty and adventure and music? Wouldn’t that reflect more accurately on our Father, who created pleasure and embedded it in the human experience, hiding joys like Easter eggs around every corner?

God has no intention of holiness and enjoyment being mutually exclusive. However, we act again and again like it’s either one or the other. We grit our teeth, do the right thing, and feel deprived; and then we tire of that and give in to temptation, indulging in a guilty pleasure, and feel ashamed.

We need to get better at pleasure.

Because Christians should be better at pleasure than anybody.

PART 1: GOOD FUN

Pleasure, laced throughout creation, points us to God’s existence and goodness. We so often get pleasure wrong, but God longs for us to get it right. Is there a way for pleasure to deepen our faith, rather than lead us into danger?

10/11/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Psalm 16

PART 2: FEELIN’ IT

In a song he wrote, King David shares two essentials to getting better at pleasure. In this message, we’ll explore what it means to See The Good and to Want The Best.

10/18/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Psalm 16

PART 3: HOW TO MAGICALLY HAVE MORE

In this message, Justin shares two stories, each of which encapsulates one of two very different ways to walk through the world. Which do you see yourself more clearly in?

10/25/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Genesis 3:1-18

PART 4: THE JOYS OF ENOUGH

These ten words are a mantra of our society and whisper to you incessantly: To have more pleasure, you need to enjoy more things. But take heart: as destructive as that lie is, the truth is just two words away.

11/1/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

Text: Proverbs 25:16,17

PART 5: YOU’VE GOT TO TRY THIS

Want to enjoy your life more fully, the way God intended? Then pay close attention to what He says about what to do with what He gives. In this message, we’ll explore a rare reflex you can develop that won’t just bless you, but those around you as well.

11/8/20 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt
