Poured Out (Part 1): Prayer Poured Out on the Feet of Jesus

This Sunday, we jumped into a new 4-week series called Poured Out, a series that leans into the ways that God is pouring out wonderful things in and through our people. Start with this question:

  • What is the most expensive gift you have ever given anyone? Were you excited? Nervous? How did you feel?

This week we are inviting your group to choose questions from the multiple options below.  Our hope is that these questions might help you to lead your discussion in a way that makes sense for your group this week as y’all “talk it out” and “live it out”.

TALK IT OUT AFTER READING MARK 14:1-11

STUDY

  • Jesus’ enemies decide to not arrest and kill him until after Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. What’s going on there?

  • What stands out to you about each of the different characters in around this story (Chief priests, scribes, Simon the leper, the woman, the disciples & Jesus)

  • What led the woman to anoint Jesus with this rich perfume?

PROCESS

  • What would you have said to the woman who “wasted” a whole jar of perfume on Jesus?

  • What does your prayer life look like right now? Be honest and vulnerable here. It’s not just about where you are now but where you could be.

  • How have you seen prayer change circumstances in your life and the lives around you? Share an example.

LIVE IT OUT

PRACTICE

  • What’s an extravagant, brave prayer you have prayed recently?

  • When it comes to prayer, what might be holding you back to giving yourself to God over and over again through prayer? Time? Exhaustion? Busyness? Distractions? Feeling unequipped? Something Else?

PRAY

  • Beginning on Sunday, April 21st until Sunday, April 28th, we are planning to consecrate the prayer room 24/7 (168 one hour slots we are inviting our church to fill), to close group, consider praying together for clarity on when each of you might be able to inhabit this room as an prayer offering to God even if it may be feel strange (we need some night owls!)
