SERMON SERIES: SKEPTICS WELCOME

Skeptics Welcome bulletin cover.001.jpeg

If you have a hard time believing in God, in Jesus, in the Bible, this series is for you. We want you to know that you’re welcome in our church. And we want you to know there's reason to explore God with hope.

In this series we'll evaluate 5 beliefs commonly held by those who maintain a skeptical posture toward Christianity. We'll put them on the table, test them, see where they hold up and where they fall short.

In the end, the goal of this series is not to “prove God” to anyone, but instead, to encourage us to doubt our doubts.

PART 1: WHO NEEDS GOD?

In this message, we explore a belief commonly held by skeptics: “You don’t need God to have a full life of meaning, hope, and satisfaction.”

Text: Psalm 63:1,3,5

10/1/17  Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

PART 2: JUST ONE RULE?

"You should be free do live as you see fit, as long as you don't harm others." Maybe you've heard this before. Maybe you've said it before. But is it a value worth holding onto? In this message, we'll explore the consequences and alternatives of a life focused on personal freedom.

Text: Jeremiah 10:23-24

10/8/17  Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

PART 3: HOLD THE MAGIC

What's going on with all the magical stuff in the Bible--Daniel in the lion's den, Noah and the flood, a talking donkey, fire from Heaven, Jesus healing people? Are we supposed to believe that stuff actually happened? Or can we dispense with the magic and welcome the wise teaching?

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:19-21

10/15/17  Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

PART 4: SELF…ISH

Who are you…really?

How do you figure out the answer to that? Is your "self" just the sum of your deepest wishes and desires? Or are you more than that? In this message, we'll explore competing approaches to the question of Identity.

Text: 1 John 3:1

10/22/17  Speaker: Justin Gerhardt

PART 5: REASON TO BELIEVE

If you believe the universe is purely material, you'll have to have faith in at least 3 things. In this message, we'll examine those 3 things and see how they hold up.

Text: Romans 1:20

10/29/17 Speaker: Justin Gerhardt
